Following Geopolitics

I tend to listen and read a lot about geopolitics lately (how come?! you ask) Honestly, like many who became Nirvana fans after Cobain’s death, I really only started reading a lot about the world order since it was roothlessly attacked by Russia, the well-known terrorist state. So, for those who are interested in where I base my opinions on, here a growing list of people you could also follow.

  • Anders Puck Nielson Nielson is a military analyst who is a master of logical thinking about geopolitics and war. Quite fitting, his blog is called logicofwar.com. I certainly recommend following his video channel. As a bonus, Nielson is an expert and enthusiast for the open social web, and you can follow him on, e.g., mastodon (on his own server, how fedi!).
  • Phillips P. O’Brien O’brien is not so wise concerning the internet as Nielson, but he is a close follower of the invasion of Ukraine. You can follow him on some closed networks, or read his blog on substack (why substack???) Also check out his podcast with Mykola Bielieskov, who is a highly informed Ukrainian military analyst.
  • Boekestijn en De Wijk Boekestijn en De Wijk is a Dutch podcast, so description in Dutch.
  • NoelReports To get updates when the news is still happening, follow NoelReports for example on mastodon. Offers daily summaries of what happened both at the front line and in international politics. Hardly ever posts stuff that turns out to be wrong. However, be aware that his posting is biased, showing destroyed Russian, not Ukrainian columns.
  • WarTranslated Slightly less news-focused than NoelReports, but hardly ever bringing stuff more than 2 weeks old is wartranslated. Their unique selling point is adding translations to videos, mostly of Russians speaking. This includes many soldiers, military leaders and the miserable fucker on the top of the Kremlin. I find their posts interesting to get at least some idea of what goes on in the minds of those people.
  • This is Not a Drill A very broad geopolitical, slightly intellectual podcast, often zooming in on Ukraine is This is Not a Drill. UK-based, but obviously eager to show various perspectives. Every episode has at least one guest. Notably, many female experts and experts from the countries they talke about are invited.
  • De Veldheren Dutch speaking podcast with former dutch Chief of Defence Peter van Uhm and former Commander of the Royal Netherlands Army Mart de Kruif. Both have obviously a lot of important insights to share about how terrible war is and how you should fight to end it and prepare to prevent it.
